What is Detoxification?

Biotransformation & elimination is the more accurate description of detoxification.  

Biotransformation is ‘transforming biologically reactive’ intermediates to less harmful water-soluble compounds. Biotransformation refers to the process by which lipophilic (fat-soluble), xenobiotic (foreign), or endobiotic (endogenous) chemicals are converted in the body by enzymatic reactions to products that are more hydrophilic & less reactive which can then be eliminated safely.

When detoxification isn’t working correctly, these ‘reactive’ and dangerous intermediate compounds can hang around too long, causing further damage to the body. Therefore, biotransformation & elimination need to be supported; otherwise, one risks more harm to the body by ‘re-toxifying’ themselves, which is often the case with many bogus detoxes marketed to people.

Everyone has toxins to some degree – the number of toxins varies per person depending on the level of exposure. Toxins accumulate in our fat cells as we age. What most 'detox cleanses,' supplements, & programs are getting wrong

Typical detoxes fail to push toxins out of storage and only deal with what is circulating in the bloodstream.

Many programs fail to focus on actually removing toxins from the body

⚫️ Few detoxification programs follow all the three basic scientific principles required to safely and effectively eliminate stored xenobiotics.  Ultimately leading to ineffective detoxification causing further symptoms and damage to the body.

The majority of detoxes use foods or supplements that are commonly marketed for detox, which according to scientific literature, have been shown to inhibit detoxification

⚫️ Foods, fruits, and other nutrients, often popular for ‘liver support’ (curcumin, green tea, milk thistle), inhibit detoxification.  Although healthy on most days, within the context of an evidence-based detoxification program, they do not belong.

How my detox program is different than the others?

My detox program differs from others because it uses evidence-based methods that support the proper elimination of toxins.  The most important aspect of this program is that it encompasses three essential steps that optimize detox pathways:

1. Mobilization of toxins out of fat cells

⚫️ Toxins are stored in fat cells and require a hypocaloric state to lose fat and release the toxins 

⚫️ Excreting the toxins through sweat-inducing activities –exercise, sauna 

2. Neutralization of Toxins

⚫️ Targeted foods, beverages, and supplements, which support detoxification pathways (not inhibit)

3. Elimination

⚫️ Gut & liver health are crucial for properly ‘neutralizing and eliminating’ toxins

⚫️ Sweating

⚫️ Fibers

⚫️ Using binding agents which pull out toxins to prevent them from reabsorbing & re-toxifying the body
